If you tried to log in to one of your favorite sites that allowed the downloading of pirated movies, music, music videos or sold counterfeit goods, they GONE!.
The Department of Justice, Homeland Security Investigations and National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center have been on a mission as of late.
But those seizures were just the beginning. Many other domains have fallen victim in the U.S. Government’s latest attempt to shut down rampant piracy and bootlegging that is costing the record industry, movie companies and clothing manufacturers billions of dollars annually.
Site and Domain owners were caught completely by surprise.
“My domain has been seized without any previous complaint or notice from any court!” the owner of Torrent-Finder told TorrentFreak. “I firstly had DNS downtime. While I was contacting GoDaddy I noticed the DNS had changed. Godaddy had no idea what was going on and until now they do not understand the situation and they say it was totally from ICANN.”
Cori W. Baqssett, a spokewoman for Ice confirmed the seizures in a statement to the New York Times.
“ICE office of Homeland Security Investigations executed court-ordered seizure warrants against a number of domain names. As this is an ongoing investigation, there are no additional details available at this time,” she responded.
